Story of an illness

What is the standard by which we judge something is wrong? Some say, "it's defined by the law". Others say, "it's wrong if it hurts others". But by that logic, what can we say about people who are hurting themselves? It's their choice, but what a lot of people don't seem to get is that many so-called "victimless" acts actually do end up doing harm, to themselves and others.

There are a lot of things out there these days that we're being required to accept or even respect. Stuff like incest, unhealthy fetishes, self-injury, 'unacted upon' paraphilia like zoophilia and pedophilia, and other things. I say, we shouldn't have to.

Does that mean we should get an asshattery permit and should tell people what they can and can't do? Or berate them for doing what they do? No, but it doesn't mean we should have to keep silent about our views on it, either.

One person's "awwwright" is another person's "you've got serious problems and need help". Do we all have to keep silent? I say, as long as the "awwwright" person is broadcasting their shit, the "you need help" person should be able to broadcast as well.

What about the 17 year old, confused teenage girl who, unaware, seeks attention because she was neglected or suffocated by her parents? She goes to parties every weekend and drunkenly sleeps with tons of others, many who use and abuse her. But she doesn't care, she's having fun. She is the drunken party girl, who does anything and everything - unaware that some day she will be unable to look at her own reflection, regretting every night of her youth. Some argue defensively, "it's a woman's choice to sleep with whomever she wants!" but where is the person who really cares, and says "she is hurting herself. Someone should tell her that what she's doing is wrong"?

Or what about the 46 year old father of four who sits alone every night in front of the computer in his basement on deviantART because his obsession with his unhealthy fetish has consumed his life? He ignores his lonely, heartbroken wife of 20 years and never sees his kids. They miss the father they once had, not this grungy, distracted, shell of a man who smells slightly of urine. He has no friends in real life, but has an abundance of health issues because of his life in a computer chair. Some argue, "leave fetish lovers alone, they're not hurting anyone!" but where is the person who really cares, and says "he is hurting himself. Someone should tell him that what he's doing is wrong"?

You're not really making any arguments here; you're just sort of morally judging people for liking sex.

But you're not really explaining now behavior that doesn't cause any harm... somehow causes harm.

Why don't you finish those thought? What happens to the teenager that sleeps around? What happens to the dad who watches porn? Explain the harm from these non-harmful activities.
